The flickering candlelight cast long, dancing shadows across the bedroom walls. Leo’s hands were trembling as he held the worn photograph. It was of Clara, taken years ago, laughing, vibrant. He thought he knew everything about her. He now found that not to be true. He picked it up. It had been in the back of her closet, tucked behind a box of old shoes.

He found the list after a quick, frantic search. The contents made him feel like he was wading through cold molasses. He read the first entry: "Go to Burning Man." She'd always hated crowds.

“Learn to play the piano.” “Volunteer abroad.” “Write a book.” He felt a tightening in his throat. He’d seen a side of Clara he never knew. The photograph felt colder in his grasp. The door creaked open.
